In conversation with UDAYAN DUARAH (UDY) | Q10 | NeSocial

"If not an actor, I’d obviously be a chef and I do enjoy cooking and I thoroughly enjoy experimenting in my kitchen with new cuisines whenever I stumble upon any!"

I guess we can call myself an actor and anchor and I have been part of movies like Bokul (2015), Dur (2017) Gangs of North-East (2017) and Rhino Express (2020). I also anchor on my podcast Ojaantric which can also be found on YouTube. I work with passion and vigor for art and I’m here to talk about how my podcast has managed to bring smiles among many in this entire pandemic situation.

Q.1 If you weren't an actor cum anchor, what would it be up to right now?

UDY- I’d obviously be a chef and I do enjoy cooking and I thoroughly enjoy experimenting in my kitchen with new cuisines whenever I stumble upon any!

Q.2 Where do you want to see "Ojaantric Podcast" in the next five years?

UDY- Well, the future always has something new in store for us. Coming to Ojaantric, in the next 5 years, I can surely see it as a big brand which makes the people of Assam proud. I also see myself doing shows with national and international talents.

Q.3 What's making you positive during this COVID pandemic?

UDY- Well, I truly believe that every action has an equal and opposite reaction and with that thought, I like to believe that whatever free time we’ve received during the pandemic situation, we should use it to its full potential. And as they say “an idle mind is the devil’s workshop” and we should definitely use that idle space in our brains in a positive manner. And that’s why I ideate during my free time as a creator as well, so mostly I have spent my time writing about new characters or stories. Since I do enjoy writing, I do spend most of my time doing the same.

Q.4 What would be a good theme song for your life?

UDY- There are so many amazing songs to pick from but if I had to pick one for my life it would be

“Don’t Worry, Be Happy” by Bobby McFerrin.

Q.5 The best thing you have read- A book, a poem and its significance in your life.

UDY- I would like to take this moment to thank my Ojaantric podcast due to which my inbox is filled with positive messages, poems and songs and so much more. I am humbled and I truly cannot pick a favorite because all of them are significant to my life.

Q.6 How long has it been in the industry and your experience so far?

UDY- I remember giving my first shot on 30th October 2012 and I have been here in the industry ever since. This is a great place because it has given me the experience to learn the vastness of the field. It doesn’t matter if the experiences here are bad or good, they have all been equally helpful in building myself up one way or the another.

Q.7 A person you look upto as an inspiration and why?

UDY- I look up to Gulzaar Sahab because he has written songs for my father’s generation and he still holds the capacity to strike a chord in my heart.

Q.8 What would be on the gag reel of your life?

UDY- There are so many incidents that I could bring here, but I guess I will not be able to fit them in one answer. People know that I am a little bit of a jokester so I believe all the mistakes I have done unknowingly will surely be in the gag reel of my life. And the mistakes committed knowingly aren’t really considered mistakes from my end. People who know me will relate to this for sure.

Q.9 A project you had loved working on and why?

UDY- All the super hit projects that were done by other actors chuckles Just kidding. I never really thought of that because every person chooses their own character. What I mean to say is every actor gets to play every type of role and I never really had the opportunity to complain because every character written up is splendid.

Q10. One social cause that you look up to and would like to make a difference.

UDY- There are many causes to look up to but the most important would be looking after the environment, starting from planting trees to keeping our city clean. And I’d definitely love to put a permanent ban on spitting in public places.
